Subject to the outcome of a review by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, construction on SG1 will be scheduled to begin in the coming months.

“The planning permission approval for SG1 is an important step in building a better town centre in Stevenage. We are confident that a review at national level will conclude that ourambitious regeneration plans for the town can act as a blueprint of economic growth and future opportunity for many towns across the UK. As we look towards the UK’s critical economic recovery from the impact of COVID-19 on people’s livelihoods and opportunities, regeneration proposals like this will be vital to our success,”  added Mark Reynolds.

“This is another major milestone in our ongoing 20-year, £1bn regeneration programme and marks a really significant moment for the town. We all know that the town has needed regeneration for some time and we are now delivering the real change that it needs. The plans for the SG1 scheme that Mace have brought forward will have an enormous impact on the town both now and in the future and are likely to encourage even further investment. We would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to everyone involved so far, this really is testament to the efforts of all who have contributed,” said Cllr John Gardner, portfolio holder for Environment & Regeneration at Stevenage Borough Council.
