Kier to construct Manchester Met student accommodation project

Kier will construct Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met)’s student accommodation development, Birley Residences Phase 2 which  will be located at Manchester Met’s newest campus, Birley Fields in Hulme, Manchester

The 491-bed scheme will consist of three blocks with 6, 11 and 16-storeys and a gross internal floor area of 12,916m². On the ground floor it will also include a state-of-the-art gymnasium and group study areas.

The project will consist of an in-situ concrete frame, traditional brickwork façades, offsite manufactured bathroom pods and the full internal fit out inclusive of all furniture, fixtures and equipment.

Peter Commins, managing director for Kier North West, commented: “This project is a key part of supporting the growing number of students attending Manchester Met and it’s our privilege to be again working with the University.

“We are currently delivering 1,345 student beds in projects across the North and are looking forward to continuing our positive working relationship with Manchester Met and utilising our local supply chain throughout this build.”

This contract is the latest that Kier has been involved in at Manchester Met having previously delivered 6 Great Marlborough Street, a facility to provide a smart, attractive environment specifically designed to house a number of professional services teams from across Manchester Met to encourage collaborative working.
