Global real estate firm Hines has unveiled plans for 600 Collins, a A$1bn premium grade office tower project in the heart of Melbourne’s central business district (CBD).
Designed by international architecture practice WilkinsonEyre and leading Australian architecture and design firm Architectus, 600 Collins will have a strong focus on sustainability, amenity, wellness, and experience.
The site is strategically located in the heart of Melbourne’s commercial core and features over 70 metres of prime frontage on Collins Street. 600 Collins will stand 180 metres tall with a world-class articulated curved facade adding a distinguished presence.
600 Collins will boast over 60,000 square metres of premium-grade office space, market-leading amenity provisions, including curated casual and formal food and beverage offerings, podium terraces, experiential end-of-trip facilities including a hotel-style reception lounge, showers, lockers, and bike parking, wellness centres, collaborative work zones, and dedicated green spaces.
600 Collins will be unrivalled in its access to transport, with immediate access to tram super stops on both Collins and Spencer Street, and in close proximity to Southern Cross Station – providing access to regional workforces of Geelong, Bendigo, and Ballarat.
With a focus on ESG and sustainability, 600 Collins will set the new standard for offices in Melbourne and attract a consciously minded workforce across a range of sectors. As Hines plans to be carbon neutral across its global portfolio by 2040 without buying offsets, 600 Collins will be the first fully electric building in Australia designed under the new Green Star Buildings tool, which rates the energy efficiency of buildings. Being fully electric is a notable shift away from the commercial sector’s traditional reliance on gas and leading the way to a clean energy future. The emphasis on sustainability is evidenced in the building’s design, which incorporates strong biophilic characteristics including numerous outdoor terraces, green walls, and will be open to the sky laneway retail and dining.
600 Collins is targeting the highest sustainability credentials, being a 6 Star Green Star and 6 Star NABERS Energy rating, as well as a Platinum WELL Certification for shell and core which will make it one of the most energy efficient and sustainable buildings in Australia.
“When Hines acquired 600 Collins Street in the height of the Covid pandemic, we had the opportunity to define how the office could bring together the best elements of how people live, work, and play while outperforming the market in sustainability,” said Simon Nasa, managing director of Hines.
“600 Collins will be a destination shaped by experience, amenities, and our tenants partnering with us to create spaces that attract and retain the best talent. 600 Collins is setting the standard for how developments in Australia can be both environmentally responsible and cutting edge,” Nasa added.
