Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH has begun construction of a new distribution centre for Amazon in Meßkirch in the Sigmaringen district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The 11,000 square metre logistics facility is scheduled for completion in autumn this year.

The new property is being built on a site with a total area of almost 83,000 square meters in the Industriepark Nördlicher Bodensee (Northern Lake Constance Industrial Park). “The fact that we are able to realise another project for Amazon so quickly in the area of last-mile logistics is also thanks to the uncomplicated and trusting cooperation with the town of Meßkirch,” says Jan Dietrich Hempel, managing director of Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH.

The new distribution centre is planned with a hall area of around 9,600 square metres and around 1,500 square metres of office and social space. From these new premises, Amazon will in future ship parcels delivered from its own logistics and sorting centres to its customers in the Lake Constance region as last-mile deliveries.

The online retailer also relies on cooperation with local independent delivery services. “An important factor for the location of the site was the good connection to the transport infrastructure,” emphasizes Jan Dietrich Hempel. Located in the centre of the metropolitan areas of Munich, Stuttgart and Zurich, Meßkirch offers short distances to the motorway and has a direct link to the intersection of the two federal highways B311 and B313. The airports of Stuttgart and Friedrichshafen, located in the immediate vicinity, can also be reached quickly.
