Dutch real estate investment manager Bouwinvest has appointed Mark Siezen as new CEO.
Siezen will replace the current CEO Dick van Hal with effect from 1 September.
Van Hal led Bouwinvest for fourteen years after a career as a director and investment manager at various financial institutions.
Mark Siezen has been employed by Bouwinvest as Chief Client Officer since November 2020.
After working for several years as a director at Achmea Vastgoed, Dick van Hal joined Bouwinvest in 2008.
Under his leadership, the opening of the Dutch real estate portfolio was given shape, the addition of funds in new real estate sectors and listed investments was realised, as well as increasing the sustainability of the portfolios and further internationalization of Bouwinvest.
During this period, invested capital grew from €5.7 billion to €16.3 billion (Q1 2022), of which €11.2 billion in the Netherlands and €5.1 billion abroad.
Dick van Hal said: “This is a natural moment to hand over the baton. COVID is behind us, client management has been set up, the risk management organization is at a higher level and the real estate portfolios at home and abroad are in good shape. The planning cycle for 2023 will start this autumn and Mark can then take responsibility for this. From September 1, the time will come for me to forge new paths.”
“Dick has taken Bouwinvest to a new level and grown it into a modern investment company. We are very grateful to him for his long-term and passionate commitment to the company, employees and customers. It is also nice to see that we can fill the CEO position with internal succession. Mark knows Bouwinvest’s direction and strategy. He will continue this, actively working on adding new product-market combinations to Bouwinvest’s portfolio,” said Jos Nijhuis, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bouwinvest.
In his current role as Chief Client Officer, Mark Siezen from the Bouwinvest Board of Directors is responsible for customer relations and representing customer interests within the Bouwinvest funds and mandates. He is also responsible for funding and developing new products and services within Bouwinvest.
Siezen has more than 25 years of work experience and has been responsible in various positions for both organizations and real estate portfolios at home and abroad. Before coming to Bouwinvest, he was Executive Director and member of the Board at CBRE Nederland and previously held various executive positions at Multi and COFRA Holding, among others.
Siezen holds an MSc in Technical Earth Sciences from Delft University of Technology and an MSc in Construction Project Management from Reading University. Mark is currently also a member of the Supervisory Board of Noordwest Hospital Group.
“I am really looking forward to leading the organization into the next phase of its development and growth as CEO of Bouwinvest,” said Mark Siezen.
“The uncertain market conditions will present a number of challenges, but will certainly also create opportunities for Bouwinvest and its customers. I feel strongly identified with our purpose “Real Value for Life” and I am convinced that this will enable us to create value for our customers, for the communities in which we invest and for a more sustainable world. With its experience, track record, strong governance and scale, Bouwinvest is uniquely positioned to offer its clients real estate investments that align with their objectives to create stable financial, environmental and social returns.”
