Belgium-based investment firm Buysse & Partners has completed the acquisition of the iconic Las Palmas building at Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam from an institutional investment fund under the management of APF International.
Las Palmas is a former workshop building of shipping company Holland America on the Wilhelminakade in Rotterdam. It was built in 1953 to a design by the Rotterdam architectural firm Van den Broek & Bakema. The facades are constructed from prefab concrete elements. The open glass stairwells in the facade are characteristic of the architecture of Van den Broek & Bakema.
In 2007, the building was completely renovated, respecting the qualities of the original building as much as possible. It received a striking architectural extension on the roof.
Las Palmas is a mixed used building and has an area of 19,700 m² spread over 7 floors. The building now houses the Nederlands Fotomuseum, a restaurant, coffee bar, photography school and several office users. With an energy label A++ and a BREEAM “very good” certificate, the building meets the most modern sustainability requirements.
With the purchase of Las Palmas, Buysse & Partners acquired its second property in the Netherlands, after De Zilveren Toren in The Hague.
